Menopause Test Changes such as hot flashes, irregular periods, sleep problems, mood swings or vaginal dryness can raise questions. The Menopause Test by The Tester is a urine self-test intended to help detect an elevated level of follicle-stimulating hormone, also known as FSH. FSH levels may rise as the body produces less oestrogen. An elevated FSH result may therefore be associated with perimenopause or menopause. The test provides an indication only and does not establish a definitive diagnosis. How the test works The Menopause Test qualitatively detects FSH in urine at concentrations of 25 mIU/mL or higher. First-morning urine is preferred because it generally contains the highest concentration of FSH. Collect urine in a clean, dry container. Remove the test cassette from its sealed pouch and use it as soon as possible, within one hour. Place the cassette on a clean, level surface. Hold the supplied dropper vertically and add exactly three drops of urine to the specimen well marked S. Start the timer immediately. Read the result after 3 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 10 minutes. If you still have a monthly menstrual cycle, perform the first test between day 2 and day 7 of your cycle, with day 1 being the first day of menstruation. Repeat the test one week later. If you no longer menstruate regularly, the test can be performed at any time during the month and repeated one week later. Result and interpretation Positive: Two lines appear and the T line is as dark as or darker than the C line. This indicates that an elevated FSH level has been detected. Negative: The C line appears and the T line is lighter than the C line or does not appear. This means that no elevated FSH level has been detected at that time. Invalid: The C line does not appear. Insufficient urine volume or incorrect test performance are the most likely causes. Review the procedure and repeat the test using a new cassette. If the problem continues, stop using the test kit and contact the distributor. For women with an irregular cycle and symptoms associated with menopause, two positive tests indicate that you are most likely in perimenopause. One positive and one negative test may indicate an early stage of perimenopause. Two negative tests indicate that you are most likely not experiencing perimenopause during that cycle. If symptoms continue, repeat the tests the following month or consult a healthcare professional to discuss other possible causes. If you have not had a menstrual period for 12 months and have symptoms associated with menopause, a positive result may indicate that menopause has most likely occurred. Reliability In a comparison study involving 250 urine specimens, the test showed 100% overall agreement with another commercially available urine FSH test. The study included 85 positive and 165 negative specimens. No test can provide complete certainty. False-positive and false-negative results are possible. Do not make medical decisions solely on the basis of this test. Consult a doctor if you have questions about your symptoms or result. Important before use Allow the test cassette and urine specimen to reach room temperature between 15°C and 30°C before testing. Keep the cassette in its sealed pouch until use. Do not use the test after its expiry date or if the pouch is torn or damaged. The test is for single use only. Do not dismantle the cassette or touch the test window. Keep the product out of reach of children and dispose of the used test in accordance with local regulations. Hormonal medication, recent use of oral contraceptives, pregnancy and breastfeeding may affect the result. Test results should therefore always be considered in the context of your personal circumstances. A positive result does not mean that contraception can be stopped. Continue using contraception until a doctor has confirmed that menopause has been reached. In the box The package contains test cassettes, droppers and instructions for use. You will also need a clean, dry urine collection container and a timer. Ordering with privacy Orders are processed discreetly and shipped in anonymous packaging, so you can test at home with peace of mind.
